Anxiety Therapy

Are You Struggling With Unshakeable Fears And Worries?

Do you often feel restless and unable to sit still, as if you’re ready to crawl out of your own skin?

Have you been dealing with chest pains, muscle aches, insomnia, nausea, and other physical symptoms that don’t have a clear medical explanation?

At times, does it feel like your thoughts are running in endless circles?

You may be plagued by “What if?” scenarios that constantly keep you on the edge. Even when nothing is wrong in the moment, you anticipate the worst and find it almost impossible to relax. Your body is always tense, leaving you exhausted yet unable to find relief.

Anxiety Can Disrupt Your Entire Day

Maybe you tend to wake up with your heart racing after tossing and turning all night. You drag yourself out of bed and drive to work, feeling nervous and dreading the day ahead. Perhaps your symptoms worsen when you leave the house or spend time in large crowds, and as a result, you’re frequently tempted to skip social activities.

Whether you’re at the office, at home, or around friends and family, you can’t seem to concentrate and stay present. You have difficulty truly engaging in your interests, relationships, and work, and your anxiety often holds you back from pursuing your goals.

When your mind and body are consumed by worry, you can feel trapped in the cycle of fear and avoidance. A supportive therapist can help you navigate difficult situations with clarity, address the challenges in front of you, alleviate your anxiety, and create more space for genuine joy in your life.

Your Anxiety Might Be Covering Up Anger Or Fear

Our thoughts and feelings serve important purposes, and anxiety is no different. Anxiety alerts us to the potential dangers of change to protect you from possible threats in your environment. But why does anxiety crop up when we’re not in danger?

In some cases, anxiety kicks in to cover up or block other emotions that seem "unacceptable" to us or to society—emotions that might cause more distress than the anxiety itself. Often, anxiety manifests to guard us from rage or terror, both of which can feel very challenging to confront directly. Many people need guidance and support to engage with their anxiety and these deeper emotions head-on.

Anxiety Often Feels Lonely—But It’s A Common Issue

If you’re suffering from anxiety, it might seem like everyone around you is living a carefree life. However, anxiety disorders are actually quite common, with nearly 20% of adults experiencing clinical symptoms (1).

With so much uncertainty in the world, it’s understandable that millions of people struggle with anxiety. Sometimes, anxiety disorder treatment specialists focus exclusively on harnessing the power of the mind to manage and overcome symptoms, but if your anxiety is signaling uneasiness about something more profound or long-lasting, merely addressing symptoms in therapy may not be enough.

Through therapy, we’ll gain insights into your current circumstances to understand the “why” behind your anxiety. As a counselor, I’ll help you identify the specific fears and frustrations that are fueling your anxiety symptoms, empowering you to move through life with newfound confidence.

Therapy Uncovers The Deeper Issues Driving Your Anxiety

Anxiety can be its own challenge—but for many people, it also serves as a protective mechanism against other uncomfortable feelings or concerns. Together, we’ll explore what purpose your anxiety symptoms might be serving and delve into potential root causes. In addition to helping you find relief from your symptoms, we’ll uncover and address the issues manifesting under the surface.

What To Expect In Anxiety Therapy Sessions

In counseling, you’ll have the opportunity to share which situations are triggering your anxiety disorder. I do not treat anxiety as a pathological response, and rather than dismissing these feelings, we’ll untangle what your symptoms might be reflecting. For example, if you’re grappling with high anxiety around social situations or your performance at work, you might be harboring unspoken fears about being judged by other people—or you might be judging yourself too harshly.

Often, anxiety is linked to the perceived consequences of facing negative judgments. You may be worried that if you were to say or do something “wrong,” you’ll be misunderstood or isolated. We’ll clarify what might be driving these fears and reflect on how you can cope with real challenges without allowing anxiety to hijack your happiness or sense of meaning in your life.

Treatment Approaches To Anxiety Therapy

In our work together, we’ll primarily focus on what your anxiety might be communicating, whether it’s signaling the need for change, or guarding you from feeling the full brunt of unpleasant emotions.

I’ll also guide you through grounding and mindfulness exercises, such as meditation, deep breathing, noticing the objects around you to get in touch with your surroundings, and tuning into physical, tactile sensations to reconnect with the present. We’ll integrate practices and habits like journaling, spending time in nature, and exercise to ease rumination and physical tension.

Anxiety is often a future-focused experience, and by cultivating awareness and calm in the present, we can help train the mind and body to be more regulated in the moment. Over time, you’ll likely find yourself going a day, a week, or even a month or more without acute anxiety symptoms.

Everyone feels anxious from time to time. But you do not have to live your life in a constant state of overwhelm and uneasiness. With guidance, you have the power to cultivate internal calm, resilience, and a renewed sense of control in your daily life.

But You May Still Have Questions About Anxiety Therapy…

  • Therapy is an investment in your future self, but it's true that it can be costly. Although I don't accept insurance, I can provide you with a Superbill to submit to your insurance as an out-of-network provider, and often, they will reimburse you a portion of your cost. I also reserve several slots in my caseload for sliding-scale therapy and folks with Open Path Collective, who offer reduced fees.

  • I’m here to support you for as long as you need—but you won’t have to stay in therapy forever. I’ll equip you with practical tools and strategies that you can lean on outside of sessions so that you can manage your anxiety independently in the future. Eventually, you’ll be prepared to stand on your own and handle stressful situations while keeping a cool head.

  • I understand that it can be tough to find space for therapy in your busy schedule. Many of my clients benefit from teletherapy, as there’s no commute time, and you can attend sessions from home. I also offer morning and evening appointments, as well as appointments during standard work hours, to maximize flexibility for clients.
